Isle of Skye
The Isle of Skye is the largest island of the Inner Hebrides and probably my favourite of all the islands I have visited in Scotland so far. It is situated just off the west coast of mainland Scotland and since 1995 reachable by a road bridge.
The scenery of the south of Skye is dominated by the Cuillin mountain range - the Black and the Red Cuillins. It is a range of rocky mountains which is visible from all over the islands. Twelve Black Cuillin peaks are listed as munros, which are mountains in Scotland with a height over 3'000 ft.
My favourite area of Skye is the Totternish peninsula in the north east. The Totternish ridge is a 30 km long landslip which contains two of the most famous landmarks of Skye; the rocky pinnacles called The Old Man of Storr and the Quiraing. The Quiraing is the northernmost summit of the Totternish ridge and is an area with some unusal and dramatic rock formations and breathtaking views.
