Cappadocia - the land of honey valleys and fairy chimneys.
Cappadocia lies in central Anatolia, the heartland of Turkey. I stumbled over pictures of the area in a travel magazine many years ago and could not get the landscape out of my head. I was fascinated by its unique geological features and treasures of a great history.
It is a landscape that was sculpted by wind and water. Erosion of the soft volcanic rock of Cappadocia has formed caves, clefts, pinnacles and fairy chimneys. But it is an area not only worth visiting for its unique landscape. It is full of historic and archeological sites such as underground cities from the times of early Christianity, painted cave churches or abandoned cave settlements.
